Beetles, flies, grasshoppers and moths… some would call them creepy crawlies, other would call them little treasures! Collecting and inspecting insects are on most little boy’s bucket lists, so why not have an insect party?
Mommy Ezalle went with a Vintage Insect Taxidermy theme for little Sion’s first birthday party and has shared all the details with us:
For the theme, I wanted something different than a normal ‘bugs’ party, and then the idea of having a Taxidermy Collection Party came to mind. I also wanted the theme to have touch of vintage to it especially when designing the invites and table elements. Dressing Sion in his Insect Inspector Hat just tied the whole theme together for me.
As always Charlene from Mmm Macarons out did herself with the cake…when I first approached her with my ideas to have the cake look like an Insect Taxidermy kit. I think we both thought I was crazy…but my oh my…she exceeded all my expectations. The cake was also topped with a black Perspex custom made topper ‘Sion is een’ with a magnify glass design made by Nadia from Creative Heroes. My mother made the macaroons and iced cookies. The macaroons had real life dried insects pinned on with each their own scientific name.
Nadia also pulled out all the stops with her great and amazing effort with the stationary! I was truly speechless! She made the following:
- The invitations that were sent as a tag on a magnify glass which stated: ‘Sion word Een, bring hierdie vergrootglas en ontdek die wereld van goggas.’
- The milestone board that looked like a diagram image in an old study guide, but instead of identifying the various body parts of the insect, it had various information about Sion.
- The Thank You gifts were each little one received a see through box with play insects together with an insect net as thank you gift.
- The various tags and labels for all the eats, but the one that stood out was the small juice bottle labels. Each bottle had an insect on with a specific description relevant to that insect designed to fit the old vintage style of the theme.
