So you have a little surfer dude and a cute little beach gal, with birthdays closer together, why not combine them and have a fun beach party! Mamma Melissa did an incredible job creating two different looks with similar elements for both her son and daughter and we just love all the sand!
Here is what mamma Melissa has to say about the planning and styling:
“With the ocean and beach as inspiration, it was easy to get overwhelmed with so many ideas available on the web. But the idea I had in mind was simplistic, modern and a lot of fun.
I asked both the kids what they wanted in terms of treats. Oliver being the oldest, loves macarons and cake pops so that was easy. I tried to do a variation on the same treat for both to be fair but also made a few changes to keep it fun. We decided on a cake for the party table for each that was more of a “theme” cake and then a cake for blowing candles that were in line with the colours of the party and a bit more trendy. Charlene from MMM Macarons got it spot on. Cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, macarons and pretty packaged sweets are what kids’ dreams are made of.
We filled some party boxes with popcorn, other eats and a few toys. To drink we got some very cute water bottles and tied a printed-at-home tag around each.
For the decor the only one thing they asked for was sand. So we brought the sand, lots of it and converted our garage into a mini beach.
Sand, lots of fun inflatables, buckets and spades, pineapples, fishnets, beach towels in all the pastel colours and balloon garlands to finish it off.”
Planning and styling a party for one child can be hard work… nevermind doing it for two. So we got some advice from Melissa to share with you:
“Do things ahead of time and order things that you know you won’t get time for. Although I love baking, I know that baking under stress will result in your cake not being exactly like you imagined it (or Pinned it). Put your order in well ahead of time so you can spend time on the details of it all.
Ahead of time I made the coloured ice cream (using simple vanilla ice cream and adding food colour) , dipped the cones, made the party packs etc.”
